Mette Birckner trained tapestry weaver from Hjørdis Bruun Weaving School in 1960 in Copenhagen, has since her debut at age 18 exhibited widely in Denmark, including at the Autumn Art Exhibition, Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition, Artists’ Easter Exhibition and Artists Summer Exhibition. Among many other exhibits are the Women’s Museum, Concert Hall Aarhus and Textile Forum, Herning. In 1988 Mette Birckner Danish Arts Foundation Operating Grant and the 1996 State Arts Foundation Travel Grant, which led to a trip to Greenland. The travel inspirerede to several tapestries, but also watercolors and paintings. In 1998, she also received Aarhus Kommunes Kunstnerstipendium. In 2000 Mette Birckner moved to Fyn – Assens. Today she lives in Copenhagen in the wellknown Kunstnerhjemmet in Gothersgade (The Artists Home). The source of inspiration is still nature experiences including travels to Iceland and Greenland.
