This dynamic silver and silt-gilt sculptural group depicts a naturalistic horse and its rider battling a lion. The lion attacks the horse, which rears as its rider attempt to stab the lion with his spear. The lion is stamped ‘800’, denoting the silver’s purity, as well as marks indicating the sculpture’s origins in Milan, Italy.
The model sits on a beautiful blue sodalite base, which has the appearance of stars in space.
